Decorating Your Home is Easy

Oct 23, 2009

Every few years most homeowners get the urge to make changes in their homes. They may apply a few new coats of paint or they may spend a fortune remodeling a room. They may even call in a team of professionals to redo everything. While this may be an option for some folks, in other cases it is too expensive. Luckily, it is not necessary. There are certain things you can do to freshen things up in your home. You can also turn drab, uncreative decorating into a comfortable, warm environment. Lighting tricks like a fluorescent light diffuser or decorative light panels can change the mood of an entire room. Add paint colors that reflect the lighting in a pleasing way and your entire room will feel cozy! Use texture to make a room feel comfortable and inviting. This will have your entire family gathering together and enjoy the surroundings. Once you add accessories that reflect your family spirit, all that will be left to do is create the warm family memories that make a house a home.

Instead of remodeling your entire room, add a fresh coat of paint to spruce things up. In most cases, large rooms should be painted dark colors and smaller rooms should use pale colors. While this is the general rule, it does not always have to be followed exactly. Sometimes, small rooms feel cozy and warm painted in a deep hue. If you are unconcerned about a room “looking large,” there is no reason why you should not choose a darker color. A lighter ceiling also helps to open up a small room painted in a rich, deep shade.

Conversely, a lot of people like the bright, airy feeling of a pale shade in a large room. If you have a lot of windows, it will let in the sun and brighten your environment. If you want something more exciting than beige or white, choose a bright, sunny yellow, a fresh green, or a calming pale blue.

Once the room is painted and there is lighting balance, it is time to accessorize. This is usually the most enjoyable part of decorating. If you want your entire family to spend time in the room you are redecorating, it is important to include them in this part of the process. Let each person pick something that will be used to make the room unique. Your daughter may choose a cozy throw and your spouse may add a favorite piece of art. You may want to frame a favorite family photo. Whatever the case, it is important for the room to be personalized. This is true, as well, if you are designing a room for yourself. In a personal environment, you will want to make sure you love every item that resides in it. Make the furnishings comfortable, choose fabrics that are in our favorite hues, and accessorize with items that make you feel happy. If your home needs a change, try these simple methods of sprucing things up.
